Web 2.0: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the InternetLecturer: Adam Martin, NCsoftAs a business, we’ve historically been driven by sales of boxed product. Over the last 10 years, in the online space this has shifted fundamentally from 3-months-after-launch boxed sales to 10-year-liftetime monthly subscriptions. We’re now seeing another similarly huge shift, loosely (and misleadingly) described as Game 3.0, or Web 2.0, etc. This talk looks at the changes that are forced upon us by the new situation, and also the additional opportunities that it presents, with a particular focus on examples of what we can and should be doing about it. And if we don’t, the huge entertainment and media companies who are starting to leverage their sheer bulk and better relationships with consumers to move in on “computer games” will slowly start to force out good design and gameplay through their simple market power. Perhaps it’s time to “embrace and extend”? Intended Audience: Designers, Design Directors, Development Directors, Producers, Executive Producers Prerequisites: Attendees require no specialist knowledge for this session Format: Lecture Track: Business/Legal Date/Time: Tuesday, 10:30 AM Room: Seaport
