As online games become more and more important to our industry, the marriage of game design and economics will play a greater part in the development process. In examining microtransaction model, for example, we need to examine the player motivators, gold farming, MUDflation and other critical design issues that can make or break our projects.

Can the Western audiences be enticed to the “free to play with microtransaction model”? How will the subscription model change in the future? What can we learn from the microtransaction based games from Asia? How do item sales and real money trade work with subscriptions?

Finally, as we design game play mechanics, storylines, items and power-ups, what factors do need to consider for a healthy and growing economy in our games?

Our panel of designers with experience from the trenches of current online game projects will share their thoughts on this critical topic.
