An Analysis of MMOG Subscription GrowthLecturer: Bruce Woodcock, MMOGCHART.COMMassively Multiplayer Online Games have become one of the most significant trends in computer and console game development in the past few years. Dozens of MMOGs exist already and over 100 are in development, representing hundreds of millions of dollars in investment. Yet very little hard data is available on the true scope of the subscription-based massively multiplayer online gaming market. This lecture attempts to provide some of the hard numbers behind the subscription growth of current MMOGs, and through simple graphical analysis uncover important trends in the data that can be used to help predict the future of the industry. Also discussed are the methods used to collect the data behind the research, the risks and rewards of revealing your subscription numbers, and how such research could be advanced in the future.
